Barret's past will likely be shown fairly early on in FF7 Remake Part 2, as the second installment will likely stay true to - if not greatly enhance - Barret's important backstory, giving even more depth to his endearing character. Many questions about Barret can be answered from a stream of events that occurred prior to the story of FF7 Remake: how he lost his arm, how Marlene came to be in his care, and why he carries a strong hatred for Shinra. Additionally, Barret cares deeply for the rest of his Avalanche team and even Cloud Strife, who Barret has a hard time trusting at first, due to the mercenary's history with the powerful industrial enterprise, Shinra. Barret still carries the brash demeanor and foul mouth he's known for in the original FF7, but FF7 Remake enhances Barret's warm yet complicated personality by giving more focus to his touching interactions with his young daughter, Marlene.

The leader of Midgar's faction of Avalanche has a big heart, despite his short temper. Yet Barret's tragic backstory may not be as well-known as his classic image. The passionate Avalanche member's gun-grafted appendage has made the iconic hero a recognizable character since 1997, with many being aware of Barret prior to FF7 Remake, even without ever playing the original. Newcomers to Final Fantasy 7 Remake may be wondering how Barret Wallace lost his arm.
